Trip from Halifax to Saint John's, CANADA

Hello Warm Showers Team!

Just wanted to let you know that I'm planning to do a tour by bike of Nova Scotia and New Foundland (Halifx to Saint John's) and I'll be interested to hear from you guys if you have some tips, especially regarding:

- biking infrastructure: seems like there a lot of non-protected roadways there...can anyone who's done it confirm it to me and tell me how he/she did it?
- lodging: would you recommend camping in October, and even November in these season or is everything already closed?

Looking forward to exchange with you some information about this exciting trip and wish you a pleasant rest of the week!

Kind regards,

Bruno

Ireland

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to tour the perimeter of Ireland. I see there are lots of hosts around the country - does anyone have any tips for an American experiencing bike touring in Ireland (or Europe, for that matter) for the first time?

From Barcelona to Lisbon by the sea coast (family trip)

Hello everybody!
We are a cycling family from Ukraine - dad, mom and 5 year old boy. The three of us have been traveling for a long time, a lot and far.
You can learn about all our travels from our vlog - http://www.youtube.com/c/DvokolisniHroniky
On October 7, we will start a cycling trip from Barcelona to Lisbon by the sea and ocean (of course, we allow a depth of several tens of kilometers inland).
We will be happy to meet local people to learn more about the culture and lifestyle of those regions. This will be our first time in Spain and Portugal. We will also be grateful for any advice and tips online.

Cheers!

Cornwall - Devon - Portsmouth

Hello there!

I have a crazy plan to cycle from Penzance, in Cornwall, to London.

I have friends in Devon I can stop off with - but curious as to what are the most manageable and scenic routes for that journey.

Thank you!

Leaving Europe for Africa (Germany - France - Morocco)

I will start shortly with my #WorldGraceRide leaving Europe for Africa (middle of Germany, crossing into France (down along the Rhone), along the Sea Med. taking the ferry from Sete to Morocco).

I wanted to take the ferry from Spain (Almeria) but the borders are still closed.

I will cycle south between the coast line and the Sahara desert, hopefully cycling in to Senegal in January.

I am looking to volunteer my time and talents along the way. Obviously, I appreciate invitations!

Sahara

Did you watch the videos or Nomad's Trails? They went through Morocco and the Sahara. Mostly by bicycle (there was a part they had a lift by a truck or so). See here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVj8O2eJeN1ydK2Nig-1YrLiyoO9uaEYq

Sahara

Hello Inge,

thank you for commenting and sharing! I saw and watched their videos. Honestly, I follow them since they are on the road. That time, they could still make the trip through Spain, which is now closed. I am looking forward to the beauty and diversity of the African continent.

Your Next Trip

With regards to your next trip; please, please, please remember to record feedback for your hosts and guests, it is most mportant for all of us.

I've hosted 12 folks this season an not a single person has left feedback about their stay. No feedback makes it difficult for someone to get current information about me and/or you as a host or a guest. Not to mention it's just rude.

Just my 2£ worth, sorry for the rant.....

WS Member Obrazek użytkownika WS Member
feedback

I had a total of four guests (two of them came together as a couple). All of them left feedback here at the website, after I wrote feedback on them (as guests) first. The last guest also wrote a few lines in my guestbook; I did not yet have that before, otherwise the others would probably have written in it too.

Leaving reviews

My whatever, once a few reviews are written, and nothing changes, I have no need to give or receive another review. And yes, your question sounds much like ranting - definitely not appropriate in the WS community. WS is a community of cyclists who understand life offers us much while on the road. Hosting is but one way to return what we have all received.

Belgium to Southern End Italy

REAL early planning stages and no real start time. I have been thinking about this for a while but like everyone else the pandemic changed things and not sure if I can pull it off in 2022.

In 2019 I rode from England to Barcelona riding down the West coast of France then I cut across France and rode into Spain on the East coast.

I figured this time I would start in Belgium ( I am planning to meet back up with a Warmshowers friend I met in 2019 so that makes Belgium the probable starting point) head into France, up the Alp Du Hue’z and I think I can ride across Italy and down the Eastern Coast of Italy from that point.

I am looking at the Euro maps. In 2019 I relied on Google and I really want to avoid that as much as possible on the next trip. It really is a hassle with trying to find internet and the fact google was not so great at keeping me on good roads. However I do kinda make my own path so I know that is also part of the issue :) .

Any advice I would happily take it.

Thanks

Rob

Your trip

Hi Rob,

I saw your post on the forum about the Belgium to Southern End Italy trip.
are you looking for a companion?
I am planning a Nice, France to Naples/Sicily bike trip in May. I have friends in Sanremo and Naples with whom I would like to visit. I am debating an inland vs coast routing for north of Rome.
Here is a link to my placeholder map: https://cycle.travel/map/journey/268136

I use cycle.travel for route planning and it is the best! The developer has a spot on algorithm that takes into account road surface and traffic count and other criteria. Get used to it and you'll wonder how you operated without it  I tried Google and it was a disaster. Totally lame

I am just back from a great solo ride from Viladecans, Spain to Nice, France. I stayed at campgrounds, hotels, and wild camped. It was wonderful!

Hall,

Hall,

not sure at all about time frame other than POSSIBLLY start the End of March and finish about end of May.

I want to start in Belgium and go to Foy and see Bastogne. I also am planning to ride up the Alp Du Huez.

Somehow I want to ride down the EAST coast of Italy but I am not at all sure how I will cross ?? From the top of Alp Du Huez or maybe ride back down to coast of France? Like I said real early planning stages.

If it worked out where we could met up that seems like a good thing.

ANYBODY with maps or ideas I am alwasy lsitening

Back to planning

Eurovelo 6 Besançon - Ulm

Hello !

My girlfriend and I are planning to cycle along the Eurovelo 6 from Besançon (France) to Ulm (Germany). We would like to know if this part of the Eurovelo 6 is doable with road bikes (25-28 mm tyres). Did some of you rode this route ?
Also, we are interested to know if the route is shared with cars or follow a separeted path. We've been looking to videos and blogs but did not find much information about this part of the EV6.
Any feedback and tip is welcome !

I rode the last third of that route in 2016. Once you're over the hills and into the Danube valley it's pretty easy riding as I recall, and much of it quite beautiful and off-road. This route indicates that 400 out of 450 km is paved (although it strays from the EV6 in places):

Hello Warmshowers!

I'm planning on cycling to my Grandparents in the South of Italy this summer. I'll start near Cambridge and head towards Dover, then Calais, Paris, Dijon, Lyon and cross into Italy over Mont Cenis. On the Italian side, I'm thinking about the Po Valley to Ravenna and then Adriatic coast to Foggia.

Looking forward to meeting you if you're nearby :)

Bike storage

Hi guys.   A shout out to anyone in the Geneva or Zurich areas.  We are an Aussie couple (48 & 52) who will be cycling from Cherbourg to Rome from May to Oct.  Have a favour to ask........
Would anyone be able to store our 2 x bikes for 2 weeks whilst we meet up with family in Tuscany?  It's too far for us to cycle in the timeframe so we will likely hire a car to meet them and return to pick up our bikes and carry on through Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia and finally Italy.  Cheers in advance.

Grenoble-Barcelona

Hello warmshowers!

End of March I plan to do a bike trip from Grenoble to Barcelona, where my sister lives. If it is not too cold (and have enough time) I plan to go by the massif of Vercors and subsequently ride through the Drome region to Les Alpilles, and head through the Narbonnaise en Méditerranée Natural Regional Park to the Spanish border. Here my inspiration stops so if people have recommendations on routes to follow from the frontier to Barcelona (or the part before), or would like to join parts of this sweet route, I would love to hear more.

Thanks a lot for your thoughts and recommendations and hope to meet you!

Budapest to Amsterdam

I`m cycling for more than 55 years. To follow only big rivers thuch as the Rhine and the Danube will be boring after a couple of days. You will not see the andscapes behind and the small cities on the way. Specially in the south of Germany there are so many interesting places. I´m also planing a trip through Germany, starting end of April, depending on the wheather conditions. To find private places for a host will be very difficult in this artificial "pandemic". 99% of all Germans/Austrians believe in this bullshit. Hotels/guesthouses are quiet expensive for 2 persons. You have to show your COVID pass and a negative test. To sleep in a teint will be the best possibility.

Hello Sicilians! Ciao!

I am Latvian from Riga, Latvia. I will start my cycling trip in Sicily from Palermo on 1st March, 2022.

My plan is to circumnavigate the island along the coastline in anti-clockwise direction. So, my next towns after Palermo will be Trapani, Marsala, Agrigento and so on. I will travel slowly - till about the end of March.

Would be nice to meet some of you if you are interested.

Grazie mille,

Ride Till I Die! Continuous around-the-world bicycle tour!

Hi all! Never did a bike tour before so I figured I'd start out huge!
I lost my lovely wife of 18 years last July and was lost with no idea what to do, since she was the only reason I did anything. Then in January I knew what I had to do. I bought a touring bike, starting loading it with bags and racks and have been buying (still buying because I can't decide what to get!) gear and equipment! Because I got the bike online, I've been spending most of my money in our local bike shop to help support them and thank them for all the help they've been giving me: "Ride On Bikes" of Columbus, Georgia!
Everyone I spoke with who has toured told me to get a 'cause' and start a GoFundMe, so I did. It is titled, appropriately, "Ride Till I Die!" and I hope to purchase (or provide a big down payment) for a church to help my wife's Pastor friends move out of their dingy clubhouse into a proper church!
I begin May 23rd, 2022, my 65th Birthday; headed to Long Beach CA, where I'll winter and be in a movie, then head East to NYC, catch a flight to Ireland, ride down through the Isles and tube over to France, make a left and head to the Netherlands, loop up and around and dive into Germany!! Can't wait! I lived there for three years in the mid '90s and loved it! Then off to Italy!
Depending on the world situation, I'd love to jump the Med' and see Morocco, then make a left and head for Asia! We'll see! If I can't, I'll turn around and do it all backwards, then start all over again along a different route!
Can't wait to get out there! If I could sell my house faster, I'd leave NOW! :D Stay safe! Glad to be here and hope to meet lots of people along the way!

Cross USA

Ive been cycling for a few years (I'm 59) but have done very little touring.  I'm retiring in July and in August I'm flying to Seattle for a 6 week trip.  I'm planning to roughly follow the Northern Tier (very roughly).  I'll probably catch a train at some stage and hopefully make it to New York before somehow getting back to Chicago to get the train to LA prior to flying home (I live in New Zealand).  I  also like trains!  I'm planning on some camping, some motel nights and some Warmshowers nights.  Been doing alot of reading/planning so can't wait til August to get going!

Off again

I was 100km into a ride from Katherine to Perth (middle of a desert) when the WA clown closed the border (last June from memory). Anyway, ahem. I'm based in Ecuador right now, but will be doing 7-10 days in the UK riding from Eton down to Brighton and around that area; around the 13th to the 23rd April. Will then, in late April be flying to Philadelphia and ride my way down to Knoxville TN, then on to Houston. Feel free anyone out there to ride along, and or provide a patch of dirt or a bed. Cheers Rust

What caused you to tour again after so many years?

WS Member Obrazek użytkownika WS Member
why tour again after 30+ years

Because the stars of time, money, and opportunity are in alignment once again. My motivation, the joy of being on the road, never faded, and I have always been blessed with good health. However for many years I did not have a bike as they were all stolen decades ago, but when I restored my '84 'dale and starting riding again things slowly began to swing into position.
