This seems to be the same

This seems to be the same android app as before. But now it is enabled again to log in on the WS servers.

How did you notice? Just by chance? Or was there an announcement somewhere?

I could not find an app for iPhone.

It is not the same design 

You have also filter / last activity / available / favorite 

 

I saw on my Android  phone an update for the apps so I check and it is working 

As I am in Korea where tons of members are just ghost It is a great news for me

Just something else

I don't remember how it was before but the map in Korea is in korean only and I look for Taiwan where I will be later it is only in Chinese 

So not very easy to read ....

I found

When you open a WS host file if you click on the 3 dots you can open with mapmse Google or naver ( for Korea) 

And you can easily localize him

App is working ((-;

...but unfortunately links don't.

We have some links in our profile like a calendar when we are unavailable. Using app people have to mark the link, copy it to browser,.. I guess almost nobody will do it.

Map style

In settings I try to change map for hike and bike and doesn't work ? 

It could be nice to have bike trail on the map

Mail function on app works like a train!

I just re-installed the app as we have some guests coming tonight, to check the speed of communication. I answered via the web and it worked perfect also my correspondence turned up immediately on the website. Also you can see when a member has been last active in the app.

- Still one hurdle to go, hide the mebers which where inactive for more then a year on WS-website. Currious when that will happen. So far, big thanxs to the folks who made it work again ;-)

In the map view, there is a settings button in the upper right corner. There you can filter users by last time active, available and favorites.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the app. The development of the webpage and the app ist separated from each other, so I have no answers regarding the webpage. The Android app has a future (again) and is actively developed. Bug reports and feature requests are welcome.

I also really like the bicycle and house symbols at the app. It makes it so much clearer to people in what state you give feedback or somebody has given. As lots of people still dont know what to choose guest or host when given feedback on the website.

I was involved for a few

I was involved for a few months, but parted in spring 2019 due to, well, "the circumstances". But I hope some things have changed and so I think I will give it another try and get into its development again.

The app development is driven a 100% by volunteers out of the community. It is open to new developers. It is open to feature requests from the community. Its source code is open, most of the coordination happens in the open. So I think the app can play an important role for the way the warmshowers community itself does develop and the values it appreciates. And in the end, warmshowers is about the community..

The app notifies you about

The app notifies you about new messages, you can change the request interval in the settings. You can also manually refresh your messages by pulling down when in the message view. Beware that energy saving mode might prevent the automatic retrieval of messages in the background.

- I found that the update between information on the website and app are not synchroon
- Also my favorites marked on the website won't be added to the favorites in the app

You can open bug reports/issues here:  https://github.com/warmshowers/wsandroid/issues. But feel free to just post them here, I'm going to have a look from time to time (more weekly than daily, so please be patient).

- What information exactly is not synchronized? Is is not syncronized at all or just delayed?

- As far as I remember there is no interface for favorites provided by the webpage.

In general, if the webpage does not provide an interface the app can talk with, we as mobile developers can't do a thing.

Also the - last active - function on the app does still not work properly. Altough I logged in both on the app and on the website, it will shown only on the app when I restart the app or my telephone. I am on android.

The synchronization issue

The synchronization issue might be due to https://github.com/warmshowers/wsandroid/issues/339. Is it fixed when you restart the app (or possibly restart the phone)?

Thanxs - it's still doing it. Keeping restarting the phone or app is not very handy ;-)
Annyway the app developers Stephan is looking into it.

new install - done

I had yesterday a gut feeling that I should check on the WS app. As I saw that it was updated on 20.09. I made a new installation. 

Now I will also review my review in Google Play and give back the 5 stars to make it popular again. 

Was all done as writtin in the email from board of members? Thus deleteing inactive profiles? I am looking forward for 2020 and many more years.

Aline and Carsten: The Board has not done much. The app is all the work of other volunteers. Somehow they convinced WS to end the block of the app that had been in effect since May. Probably the Upleaf contractor charged WS a lot of money for that.

They don't delete them 

They just put a filter to choose / last activity on the apps only
